Form Studies 2017-2020
Form Studies consists of photographs and collages that explore the changing maternal body, wherein the human form is revealed, obfuscated, and fractured. The collages in this series, generated from Woods' own photographs and found material, are deconstructed and reassembled through extensive layering, fragmentation, and re-photography. In Form Studies, Woods creates and erases physical boundaries, speaking to the blurred margins between her children’s bodies and her own. The use of extreme light and shadow in the work functions as a metaphor for the palpable sense of mortality that comes with birth.
