Form Studies 2019-Present
Form Studies consists of photographs and collages that explore the changing maternal body, wherein the human form is revealed, obfuscated, and fractured. The collages in this series, generated from my own photographs and found material, are deconstructed and reassembled through extensive layering, fragmentation, and re-photography. In Form Studies, I create and erase physical boundaries, speaking to the blurred margins between my children’s bodies and my own. The use of extreme light and shadow in the work functions as a metaphor for the palpable sense of mortality that comes with birth.
